Student Artist Residency in Costa Rica

The term “Pura Vida,“ meaning “pure life” or “simple life" has been present in Costa Rica's vocabulary for over 50 years, and it is a way of life.  This is a chance for students to breathe in the fresh air and gain a brand new frame of reference for creating art and interacting with the environment.

During the summer, as art teachers, Mindy Staley and Claire Bubeck studied and created art at the Mauser Ecohouse in Costa Rica.  Our educator perspectives prompted us to think of a way to offer the artist residency to high school students.  Consequently, Heather, the Ecohouse manager, has partnered with College Visitation for the first time ever to alter the focus of the residency for a limited time in June, in order to provide a pilot opportunity to high school art students!

We are so grateful for the student educational travel program because the long history of tours perfected through College Visitation has presented a framework for young inexperienced travelers.  The Mauser Ecohouse has years of experience sustaining artists from around the world with various creative skills and attributes to produce work, provide advice, and enjoy the biodiversity of nature.  These visionary individuals have stayed for a defined period of time, from just a few days to a year or more, and practiced their work with respect to the earth in mind, as it is our only home and should be treated with care and appreciation. Through the educational experiences of the College Visitation affiliation, we will empower our young attendants to make wise choices, creatively collaborate and safely explore the biodiverse habitats.

We are so excited to offer this experience to only 8 students, who will travel together with 2 experienced art teachers to stay in the Mauser Ecohouse exclusively for 2 weeks.
